SEATTLE — Mozilla will release the latest version of its browser, Firefox 2, today, the company said Friday.

The Courier recommends Firefox for viewing The Courier.

It's the first update since last November for the browser — used by 11 percent to 15 percent of people on the Internet, according to independent and company estimates.

New features warn users of fraudulent "phishing" Web sites, correct spelling and offer suggestions of frequently used search terms.

Firefox and other browsers have grown in popularity by providing features that users of Microsoft's Internet Explorer could only get with third-party add-ons.

Last week, Microsoft released a major update to its dominant browser, Internet Explorer 7, offering many of those features itself.

Firefox 2 is free, open-source software and runs on Windows, Apple and Linux operating systems.
