James Logan High School had its annual Sadie Hawkins Dance on March 23, 2012 from 7pm to 10pm. There were lots of complaints from the students who attended the dance pointing out many negative things about the dance. One of the biggest problems students were talking about was the entertainment, the DJ.

It was the same DJ from previous events hosted by this school such as lunchtime activities, homecoming, and both Junior and Senior Prom. Every single event he has done so far, he has gotten lots of negative feedback from the students such as playing bad music and talking too much during songs. As a DJ you are suppose to be able to read the crowd and its vibe to see what kind of music should be played at that moment. His music selection was absolutely horrible because when I was attending this dance I witnessed about half the time a big chunk of students were either sitting on the bleachers or complaining about the DJ’s music selection. I also witnessed that the DJ made three consecutive bad choices of songs that “killed” the crowd and vibe which made nearly over half of the students attending the dance sit down on the bleachers. Even when all the students were sitting on the bleachers, the DJ still decided to continue playing bad songs.

Students have repeatedly told the activities director, Monique Walton, to not hire this DJ anymore or they will not go to upcoming dances. Even with these complaints and negative comments, this DJ was still hired many times and the negative comments are increasing rapidly.

This is not one student, not 5 students, not even 50 students, this is over hundreds of students saying these things. Another complaint that was going around about this DJ was that he would sing along to the song that was being played at the moment.

Students complain they pay $10 for a good time at the dance, not pay $10 to here some guy sing along to a song and sit down on the bleachers. A word of advice for the activities department, a DJ, either makes your event or breaks your event and this current DJ does not break he event he demolishes your event.
