Last night, in James Logan's Dan Oden Swim Comples, the Lady Colts took on the water polo team from Mission San Jose, hoping to bolster its bid for its first Mission Valley Athletic League title. Instead, they fell to the Warriors by two goals.

Before the game, Colts Coach Martin Munoz said, "James Logan is off to its best start in the 16 year history of the water polo program. James Logan has never won a Girls Water Polo league title and today’s game vs. Mission San Jose could put us in the driver's seat for the crown. "

James Logan and Mission were both undefeated going into the game and vying for the MVAL Girls Water Polo League Title.

Last night's was a great game as both teams showed great sportsmanship, leadership, and communication in the pool throughout the game. When it was over both teams still continued to show their respect for each other. The game came close but Mission won, 8-6.

Highlights of the games leads as Tayler Peters tries for a long shot but she misses just barely but in all was a great attempt.

Stand-out sophomore goalie Tayler Peters blocked most of the attempted shots by the Warriors.

Geneva Foronda, with 13 seconds left before having to give the ball up, threw the ball in from a distance giving Team Logan a point to grab an early lead. Taylor Manning threw a beautiful shot from the pool's halfway point right into the goal. Amy Tolbertson was amazing as she seized her opportunity for a goal twice in a row. Caroline Sandri did a great job in tying the game 6-6 by throwing the ball into the net like it was a dart.

In the end, Mission San Jose gained two more points and won, in all, it was a great game as both sides shook hands with respect at the end.

After the game, Coach Munoz said“Mission San Jose played very well and deserved to win the game... I don’t think the loss will change anything, but will inspire our girls to work harder. To beat San Jose next time we will have to play better defense and will have to knock down our perimeter shots.”

In other news, the Water Polo girls were interviewed by Cal Hi Sports Bay Area on Monday at the Verizon Evo store in Hayward and their interview will be aired this Sunday (10/6) at 6pm and 11pm on KOFY Channel 20 (cable channel 13 check your local listings).
