Logan senior Tom Hu recently donned a friar tuck-style hairdo around school, both in advertisement of the school play and as a display of good humor.

Hu's enthusiasm for performance was already evident from his performance in the last play, "Taming of the Shrew". However, after earning a part in the school production of "Camelot" and spending time with his church group, Hu showed up to school with his eccentric haircut.

"I thought it would be funny and good advertisement for the musical,” he said. “And it’s fun showing my friends at school, especially teachers who are actually bald.”

When asked what it felt like after he shaved it, he said, “It was immediately extremely itchy and I felt ugly. I didn’t want to look in the mirror anymore because what I looked like and what I thought I looked like were different. Some people can pull off being bald, but not me.”

Of course, he felt self-conscious and tried to hide it because it was unattractive. Still, he liked it when people laughed and smiled about it, like the first day he went to school with it.

Unfortunately, some people were rude and would describe his haircut with a number of rude and derogatory adjectives, such as "gay" or "stupid"—neither of which Hu appreciated.

“My friends keep saying I should but a ‘T’ at the back of my head,” he said when asked what he would do when the musical was over. So far he plans to shave the rest off after his final show, which was yesterday afternoon.

“I want to enjoy it while I have it," he said, in reference to his haircut.

Hu has enjoyed himself by spooking teachers and laughing with friends—and, in the process, making his mark on Logan for his senior year with his choice in hairstyles.
