This year the Logan baseball team has many expectations. They finished first in MVALs last year with an undefeated record and hope to do well in the upcoming season with the help of their second baseman, senior Michael Johnson.
Johnson has been on the varsity team since his freshman year. However, he didn’t play much because of the depth Logan has had in the middle infield the past two seasons. Still, Johnson plans to have a breakthrough season this year and show why he has been on Varsity for the past two years.
The senior will be a key component for both the Colts' offense and defense. He is speedy and powerful, always threatening to steal a base. He is expected to do well because of all the hard work he put in during the summer, both on the field and in the weight room.
“I’ve been playing lots of summer ball and going to the weight room three times a week in order to improve myself,” said Johnson.
The Colts are working hard and hope to win league once again, with a possibility of advancing further in North Coast Sectionals. Although the Colts no longer have some of the key players that brought them to fourth place in NCS, the team has managed to replace them with younger players with just as much drive and talent.
“A team goal I have is for us to go undefeated in league and take NCS,” said Johnson. “ We have a strong team and we should do well this year.”
