Union City has always been known for baseball—not just Logan’s team, but also the city’s little league teams.
The city is divided into two leagues between the east and west regions of Union City. The east is known as Union City National and the west is known as Union City American.
This summer, UCA topped UCN in the senior division, beating the best team in District 45. They then moved on to play in Livermore, dominating the teams over there as well. They breezed through the competition with a 4-1 record. They then advanced to play in Los Angeles.
UCA easily beat such teams as Alaska and Arizona. Logan junior Shahbaz Khan said, “The best memory of this experience was beating Alaska 30-1.” He then went on to say that he also enjoyed “the many laughs with my teammates.”
Junior Stephan Singh said, “It was the best summer of my life—I enjoyed playing baseball in LA.”
The team went on to play Hawaii but lost 14-7.
Nonetheless, the whole team said they learned many things about teamwork and how they had to come together to succeed. Junior Mark Benitez said, “I learned that team bonding is very important, it’s one of the most important things in order for a team to do well.”
This year, many of the players are moving up to the Big League division. They are trying to have the same players again in order to possibly win it all this year.
