One of the first movies to be released in the New Year is Daybreakers, which was released January 8.

Although the movie's main focus involves vampires, Daybreakers definitely provides a different type of entertainment than other vampire related movies, such as Twilight. The movie takes place in the year 2019, when a plague has spread across a large percentage of the American population, turning them into vampires.

This plague causes the Unites States’ economy to be completely focused on the production of human blood, in order to provide the vampires with nutrition. Ethan Hawk portrays the main character, Edward Dalton, who works at a company that farms humans for blood. Edward’s role in the company is to find a blood substitute that can replace human blood to feed the vampires, due to the fact that humans are going extinct.

Although Edward works for a company that farms humans, he strongly detests the fact that the world is now controlled by vampires, and longs for a world where humans could walk around freely again. He realizes that his dream could become a reality, after meeting a group of humans who claim to have found a possible cure that could change vampires back into humans.

On his way to meet these people, he is secretly followed by the police so that they can capture these humans. Upon learning that he was followed, Edward decides to help the humans escape, causing him to be wanted by the police as well. This forces him to work with the humans in order to find a cure to change vampires back into humans, before the police find him first.

Daybreakers can best be described as a movie that is filled with many great things, however, still feels incomplete. The film has a great cast and a great plot. There was absolutely no struggle in capturing the audience’s attention. It was also great seeing how the movie interpreted the way a world ruled by vampires would function, due to the attention of detail. For example, the vampires were incapable of being exposed to sunlight; therefore, every car produced had complete tints and a camera on the front window.

Unfortunately Daybreakers fails to provide any good background information. It is clear from the beginning of the movie that it is taking place in a world ruled by vampires, however, besides mentioning that it is due to a plague, nothing else is really explained. It also seems like the movie comes to an end right when the plot is beginning to get much more exciting. Overall, Daybreakers is a movie that can provide decent entertainment, but it is still a movie that someone can wait to see on DVD.
