With the Winter sport’s season winding down, the Spring sports are just beginning. The James Logan Baseball team is gearing up for their season, as they try to bounce back from a disappointing season last year, when they missed the NCS playoffs for the first time in 15 years.

“Last season was hard to swallow because we probably had more talent than this year, but we are making that up with our great chemistry”, senior Richard Marques said.

Tryouts for the team begin this week. Logan has to fill a number of vacant spots from last year, as they lost a number of senior players. One of the positions they need to fill is their starting pitching rotation. Since they lost their number one starter from last year, they will need to find a new number one. “We are probably going to be going with ‘pitching by committee’ strategy. If a few guys step up, we should be fine”, senior pitcher Travis Pashon-Silva said.

Leading the Colts is San Jose St. bound, senior Andrew Rodriguez, who emerged as one of the top players in the MVAL last year. Rodriguez will be patrolling the outfield and will dictate the offense, as he will be batting leadoff.

Logan finished the season with a heartbreaking loss to Irvington in the MVAL playoffs. The streak stopped Logan from repeating as MVAL champs. They ended up finishing third place behind Newark and Irvington.

This is what I like to see, Andrew. I'm looking forward to a summary of the Bellarmine Scrimmage and the Amador game tomorrow.
