The Roots, Gym Class Heroes, and Estelle, three big names is hip-hop are having a concert next Saturday at San Jose State's Event Center. To be honest, I'm still psyched for this concert even though my editors handed me this assignment hours ago.
The Roots got their start at the Philadelphia HS for the Creative Arts in the late '80's, having released eight albums to this date. Noted for having a jazzy and instrument-based sound, they are influenced by and have worked with artists like Jay-Z, Roy Ayers, and Cody Chesnutt. My favorite song of theirs being "Birthday Girl" featuring Patrick Stump.
Gym Class Heroes hailing from upstate New York, are the headliners of this tour. Seeing them perform last November, also at the SJ Events Center, I must say they do know how to put on a show. With the release of their new album, The Quilt, produced by Patrick Stump, last month, this tour is sure to bring fans old and new to admire the sound they have acquired.
You've probably heard this song everywhere from radios, television, and youtube, Estelle's, "American Boy", featuring Kanye West, is just one of her singles that came out this year. Though she seems new to the game, Estelle launched her second album, Shine last April, along with being nominated for a Grammy.
Knowing this show will proabably last the whole night, it's a good thing the concert is on a Saturday and not a school night like most concerts, so expect a full report after the show.
