Courier Staff Report
House Principal John Rodriguez is recovering from injuries suffered Tuesday afternoon when he was run down by a car in the staff parking area adjacent to the band room.
Rodriguez, the 11th grade house principal, "was supervising behind the campus along the Fire Lane near the band room when he attempted to stop a vehicle," which had been driving along the Fire Lane several times before, according to a report by Principal Judy Billingsley. Rodriguez "intended to stop the vehicle to tell the driver that he could not use the road," Billingsley said.
When Rodriguez stood in front of the vehicle to force it to stop, the driver attempted to drive the car around him, swerved and struck him. Rodriguez fell to the ground, rolled down a nearby stairway.
He was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
"Logan’s School Resource Officer was informed of the incident and passed along a description of the vehicle to the police department," Billingsley said. Logan administrators are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident in an effort to identify the driver of the vehicle.
Supervision in this area of the campus will be increased, Billingsley said.
Rodriguez suffered neck, wrist, knee and shoulder injuries in the incident. He was released from the hospital and is recovering at home. More tests and xrays are scheduled for today.
He will be out the remainder of this week and probably next.
