Meanwhile, the Girls Team pounded their opposition, finishing with 252 total points and topped their nearest opponents by a wide margin (American 72.5, Newark Memorial 72).
The Boys team failed to finish among the top 5 for both the 100s and the 200s, but had a pair of top finishers in the 400s(Justin Brooks and Nick Shutes) and the 800s(Andy An and Shaun Shutes). Logan also finished with a top finisher in the long distance races the 1600m(Shaun Shutes) and the 3200m(Ravi Patel).
“We all stepped up to contribute and had fun doing it,” said Senior and 1st place finisher of the 400s Justin Brooks.
Logan dropped the 400 relay on Friday, but eked by Irvington in the 1600m rally with a 3:32.92 marker, one and a half second ahead of the Vikings.
The team excelled in the high jumps, long jumps and the triple jumps. Logan’s Rashad Evan concluded the events by winning both the triple jumps and long jumps and finished 2nd in the high jumps to teammate Monte Corley. The Colts dominated the jumps with a minimal of at least three top finishers among the top six for each event.
The Girls Track and Field team won the MVAL Championship with a well‑rounded effort. The sprint races featured first places for 100m(Briana Stewart), 400m (Thandi Stewart) and 800m(Thandi Stewart). The Logan girls finished top three for both the 100 hurdles ad the 300 hurdles. The crew even won both 400 and 1600 rally races.
The team also picked up first places in High Jumps, Long Jumps and Triple Jumps, including sweeping all the top finishes in the Long Jumps and Triple Jumps.
Many runners, boys and girls, were all smiles after Friday evening.
“It was good. Felt long, but a good experience and it was worth it,” said Senior Justin Brooks.
“I have had a lot of fun with all four years of Track and Field and it has been one to remember,” added 4‑year veteran Daryl Bundang.
This is the final race for many seniors on the Track and Field team. The top four finishers advanced to NCS Bay Shore.
