James Hansen, an Economics and American Political Systems teacher at Logan has donated a collection of presidential biographies to the school library.

Hansen may qualify for a tax deduction for his donation, but he said he did it only to benefit Logan's student body.

“I want the kids here at James Logan to be able to have access to these books. Many of these books are well written, and I’d be glad to share it with them,” said Hansen. “Knowing that I wouldn’t get any money in return for donating these books to the library, I still went on and did it. I strictly donate books to help save the library and school money for other things,”he said Hansen.

It's not his first donation. He donated his first book in 2005.

“I first started donating books once a month for each president; but since I’m near the end, I slowed down. The last book I plan to donate is on October 26, 2008, which is Teddy Roosevelt’s 150th anniversary since his birth.”

Hansen reads all the books before donating them to the school.

“Personally, I don’t get anything out of doing this besides the enjoyment of learning about presidents," he said. "I hope that people throughout the school are readers and make use of the books I have donated and plan to donate in the near future.”

Media Center personnel plan to recognize Hansen's generosity.

"To give Mr. Hansen recognition, we have made a plaque with his name on it and we plan to put the plaque over the section of books that he has donated, which is now labeled with a sticker of an American flag," said the Media Center's Michael Foster.
