On Thursday night, the James Logan Varsity boys’ basketball team scored a win over American in their last home game this season. Before the game, the Colts’ seniors were recognized in celebration of “Senior Night.”
The seven seniors on the team were each called up individually and honored with gifts from family and friends. Logan’s Varsity seniors are: Kevin Aujla, Felipe Bobino, Hunter Hayden, Howie Manzo, Christian Okeze, Isaiah Moore, and Zachary Smith.
During the first half of the game, the Colts’ were gradually making their way to victory. However, the Eagles were able to stay close behind because the Colts had not yet brought out their highest potential in the game. Half time ended with 16-15.
Logan’s shooting guard, Howie Manzo said, “We started off slow because of senior night but picked up in the second half to show that we’re truly the better team.”
As third quarter was in process, the Colts brought themselves to a lead with a high number of points. Third quarter ended with 40-22. As Logan continued with their momentum, they won the game with 58-39.
“We needed to get that win and we got it, now we go into Shaungessey-league play offs,” said Logan’s center, Hunter Hayden.
Juniors Dwight Abad, Joshua Belich and Ray Holston each made 2 points. Junior Salaimon Siddiq scored 5 points. Senior Felipe Bobino made 1 point. Senior Kevin Aujla scored 2 points. Senior Isaiah Moore made 7 points. Senior Zachary Smith scored 8 points. Senior Hunter Hayden added in 3 points and Senior Howie Manzo a team high 24 points.
Logan, second place in MVAL, will play their next game Tuesday night against the Irvington Vikings, fourth place in MVAL, in the Newark Memorial home court. Since the Newark Cougars are currently the first place team in the Mission Valley Athletic League, the next league games will be held at their place. Newark, first place in MVAL, will play against the American Eagles, third place in MVAL, on Thursday night.
The Colts’ league record is now 10-2, and 20-6 overall.
