
The James Logan Boys Varsity basketball team lost to Newark Memorial in the biggest game of the Mission Valley Athletic League this season on Tuesday night in the Logan Pavilion.
From the beginning to the end, the Colts never doubted themselves and with the enthusiasm of the audience, there was a high hope that Logan stood a chance of winning. However, by the end of the night, the Colts were unable to call themselves victors. The final score was 55-60.
In the beginning, Logan struggled to be in the lead, leaving the first quarter with a score of 6-14. However, as the Colts fought back, they gained more confidence and got in the lead with 25-24 by halftime.
As third quarter approached, intensity was at its highest level. Although the Colts continued in trying to maintain the lead, they failed in doing so, leaving the Cougars ahead with 42 to the Colt’s 41.
During the fourth quarter, the Colts had a chance to win back the points, but with only three minutes left there was tie of 50-50. Newark was able to overcome the anxiety and take the win.
Logan’s junior Dwight Abad made one point. Junior Alton Ray Holston scored two points. Senior Howie Manzo added on 14 points. Junior Salaimon Siddiq made nine points. Senior Isaiah Moore contributed with 18 points. Senior Zach Smith followed through with 6 points. Finally, Senior Hunter Hayden made five points.
Logan will be up against American High school on Thursday night in Fremont. The Colts’ record is now 14-5.
