The James Logan Varsity Cheerleading squad took Second Place in the JAMZ NorCal Extreme Cheer and Dance Regional Competition Saturday. It was their first competition of the year facing other California high school cheer teams, and their success qualifies them to go on to the national commpetition on January 31 of next year.

Varsity cheerleaders Alexa Chavez and Jamie Javier took a break from dancing in order to congratulate their team.

"We worked really hard," said Javier, "We had a good attitude. The attitude to win."

Chavez added, "We performed our best and so I'm really proud of everyone."

The team not only has Nationals to fret about, but the approaching Dec. 8th competition.

"This Saturday is the USA Cheer competition in Tracy," explained Chavez. "We're going to be up against other Bay Area school's squads and some All Star [professional] teams." The team will be performing in Varsity Pom & Dance, "so it'll be all dance with cheers and jumps."

When asked how they felt about their next challenge Javier answered, "We're going to try even harder this time; we really want to take First [Place]."

Congratulations to our Cheerleaders! You've all been very instrumental in our attempt to increase school spirit and pride this year. And this year's squad is one of the best I've seen recently. Keep it up! I wish you all the best this weekend.
