Friends and family of James Logan student Amrit Kaur will gather tomorrow at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward to reflect on her short life.

She died of pneumonia last Friday. She was 16 years old and in her second year at Logan.

Jeffry McNesby, her teacher, said that there is a void in his Functional Living Skills class since his student Amrit passed away.

"She had a wonderful personality and smile," he said today, "She really enjoyed being at Logan."

Amrit, who used a wheelchair and was non-verbal, loved music, said McNesby. "She loved to dance in her wheelchair" and move her legs to the music," he said. "She was so positive and hapy. You just needed to look at her and she would smile. We feel a void in the room."

"She loved to hear the sound of the fallen leaves on the ground as they crunched under her wheelchair," he said.

Logan Principal Don Montoya led the school in a moment of silence in her memory on Monday. He said "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Amrit's family, friends, and staff."

Friends, family and staff are invited to pay their respects to her memory between 11 a.m and 2 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward.

I will always remember Amrit as bright, happy, "Ms. Sassy". That's what I got used to calling her because of her Betty Boop, Sassy shirt she was always wearing. I always felt drawn to her bright light. Now I must look to the heavens to find it.
