This is only for Juniors and Seniors.
Perri Darweesh, Logan teacher and the advisor of the Raza Day event, planned this to help increase the number of Latinos and Latinas who attend college. The day will include information on the admission process for college, financial aid, academic programs, and transferring to one of the California State University campuses or one of University of California's.
Darweesh said, "this will be a great event for these students to give them that extra hand. We encourage the next step, and community college is a step in the right direction. We are also thrilled that Ohlone College will be providing busses, a delicious lunch, and excellent speakers that are on our wish list."
One of the speakers will be a professor from U.C. Berkeley, Dr. Alex Saragoza, he will be a key note speaker to inspire Latinos to go for college. Also, we will have J.J. the DJ will be a speaker.
This event is however limited to the first 50, maybe 60 students, because there is the one Ohlone Charter bus.
Darweessh said "there are other separate intervention programs for Latino/Latina and African American females and males. This event is not an act of discrimination. We are also having teachers selecting students to be role models, the "Big Sister, Big Brother" effect."
So sign up if you want to attend this free event. Buses will leave Logan at 8:00 AM and return at 2:45 PM. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. If you have any questions, you can contact House 3 or talk with Ms. Darweesh in room 459.
