Logan's track and field team proved itself a powerhouse with a bright future at the Hampton-Phillips Track and Field Classic at San Jose City College last weekend.
Courier track graphic Senior Pearson Crichlow won the varsity boys 100-Meter Dash in 10.85 seconds, just .27 of a second better than teammate Marcus Spencer, a senior who took second place for Logan.

Logan's girls swept the varsity 400-meter dash. In the fifth finals heat, senior Tracey Stewart crossed the finish line first in 58.13 seconds, junior Jackie Harrison was second in 58.49 and sophomore Jami Hardy crossed third in 58.84 seconds, the three best times in the event. Eight of the top ten finishers in the event ran in the fifth heat.

Crichlow also won the varsity 200-Meter Dash, in 22.07 seconds, more than half a second faster than second place finisher Alex Harvin of Monterey High School.

Senior Matt Cobette also won for Logan, taking the gold in the varsity 800-Meter Run with a time of 1.57.89 minutes, more than a second faster than second place finisher Robbie Reid of Mountain View.

Logan junior Alex Spain finished 16th in that race.

Logan's "B" team won the varsity Boys 4x400-Meter Relay in 3:28.26 minutes, more than two seconds better than the second-place Scotts Valley team.

The Lady Colts varsity 4x100-Meter Relay team won that event in 46.44 seconds to JW North's team's second place time of 47.28.

The Lady Colts also won the varsity 4x400-Meter Relay, with a time of 4:03.25 minutes. Milpitas was second.

The meet, which included events for freshman and sophomore althetes, gave a glimpse of the team's future, which seems bright.

Logan's boys frosh/soph 4x100 Meter Relay "A" team won that event. Logan fielded two other teams in that event, which finished seventh and eighth out of nine teams competing.

Sophomore Nick Shutes won the boys frosh/soph 800-Meter Run, in 2:07.65 seconds. His brother Shaun, also a sophomore, finished third in 2:08.85. Brian Hand, a sophomore from Gunn High, was second.

Sophomore's Hector Hernandez and Andy An, as well as freshman Christian Morales, also ran in that race, finishing fifth, seventh and seventeenth.

The freshman and sophomore boys also won the 4x400-Meter Relay in 3:40.44 minutes. Evergreen Valley was second in 3:42.44. Logan's "B" team finished third in the race, and the "C" and "D" teams finished seventh and tenth.

Sophomore Rashad Evans won the frosh/soph boys Triple Jump, leaping 41-05.5 feet for the victory. Freshman Arnaux Brewer was sixth. Freshman Nate Medhane also competed.

Junior Ray Stewart finished second in the varsity boys 110-Meter Hurdles, behind David Klech of California High School. Klech's time was 14.32 seconds to Stewart's 14.62 . Junior Sadiq Elbashir was fifth (16.72).

Junior Quentin Powell took silver in the boys varsity 400-Meter Dash. His time of 49.28 seconds put him behind Nevin Gutierrez, a junior from JW North (49.07.) Logan senior Taven Parker finished eighth.

Colt senior Marcus Spencer leapt to second place in the boys varsity Long Jump, covering 22 feet, but Chris Yu of Gunn did better by 4.25 inches. Colt juniors Bobby Sangco, Elvis Dinh, and D.J. Gomes were 13th, 19th and 29th in the event.
Colt senior Aubre Wilmont, and juniors Mario Tyler, Damon Williams and Josh Neal also participated in the event.

Sophomore Belal Mogaddedi took second in the frosh/soph Pole Vault, jumping up 11 feet, six inches. Branden Alvarez, a freshman, also participated in the event

Logan boys took second and third places in the frosh/soph Discus Throw. Raheem Gibson, a sophomore, threw the discus 118-10 feet for second. Joe Bailey, a sophomore, was third with a throw of 115-04.5. Sophomore Mico Pineda finished in seventh, Raheel Khan, a sophomore, was ninth. Sophomore Nifiae Lealao was 14th. Sophomore Delvon King also participated.

Rashad Evans, sophomore, placed second in the frosh/soph boys Long Jump, with a leap of 19 feet, Mark Flores, a sophomore from Mt. Pleasant, won with a jump of 20-05. Freshman Arnaux Brewer was 17th, and Michael Turner, a sophomore, also participated.

Lady Colt Senior Teirra Ward took fourth place in the girls varsity 100-Meter Hurdles. Her time of 14.7 seconds was just about half a second off the pace of winner Julian Purvis of St. Elizabeth.

Ward took third pace, and teammate Victoria Humphrey, a junior, fourth in the girls varsity 200-Meter Dash. Ward ran itin 25.14, and Humphrey in 25.89. Jeneba Tarmoh of Mt. Pleasant won with a time of 23.99.

Even though she's a freshman, Donnise Powell ran in the varsity girls 800-Meter Run, and took third, with a time of 2:23.56 minutes. Rosa Magana of Holy Names won in 2:15.63.

Lady Colt Senior Jalessa Jeffery took second place in the varsity girls Shot Put, with a heave of 40 feet, one inch. Chidinma Onyewueni, a senior from Oak Grove, won with a throw of 42-07.

Jalessa was fourth in the varsity girls Discus Throw. Her distance of 101-08.5 feet was well off of Onyewuenyi's winning toss of 129-04 feet.

In the varsity shot put event, Logan sophomore Kassy Peterson, freshman Janelle Prothro and sophomore Angelin Pascual, finished 14th, 15th and 16th, while freshman Caitly Baca was 20th and senior Angelina Angilau was 24th.

Prothro placed 17th in the varsity discus. Teammates Jhakarra Shaw, a senior, Angilau, Pascual and Peterson also participated in the event.

Colt Danny Godfrey, a sophomore took third place in the frosh/soph boys 110-Meter Hurdles, with a time of 17.75. Dextur Sulit of Mt. Pleasant, a sophomore, finished first in 16.68.

Logan runner Jonathon Gaines, a sophomore took third in the frosh/soph boys 200-Meter Dash with a time of 24.38. Sophomore Michael Turner was seventh. Cameron Cauthen of Granada took first in 23.82.

In the boys varsity Triple Jump, junior Josh Neal finished in sixth place, with a distance of 42-07.25. Maverick Crawford of Alisal, a senior, won with a distance of 46-01.5. Sadiq Elbashir and Elvis Dinh were eighth and ninth.

Elbashir finished fourth in the varsity boys High Jump, clearing six feet,but Kavid Klech of California won it by clearing another eight inches.

Senior Anthony Orozco placed fourth in the varsity Pole Vault, clearing 14-06. Josh Schroder, a junior from San Benito, won at the same height, with fewer misses.

In the frosh/soph boys Shot Put, Logan sophomores Joe Bailey, Raheem Gipson, Mico Pineda, Nifiae Lealao and Raheel Khan finished sixth, seventh,eighth, ninth and 15th. Adam Taylor and Delvon King also participated in the event.

In the varsity boys 1600-Meter Run, senior Alex Yonas was eighth.with a time of 4:36.99. Junior Rigo Vasquez of San Benito won the event in 4:25.4.

In the girls varsity Long Jump, Logan freshman Nicole McGlory was fifth with a leap of 16-03.5 feet. Christa Hicks, a junior from Granada, won with 17-01.5 Junior Victoria Johnson finished eighth for the Colts. Freshman Lauren McGlory was eleventh. Sophomore Julie Stewart was 15th and freshman Kiyoko Orange was 22nd.

Danielle Orozco, a freshman, finished 15th for the Colts in the girls varsity Pole Vault. Shaheena Sheikh also participated in the event.

Nicole McGlory finished sixth in the varsity girls Triple Jump, with a distance covered of 34-05.25. Her sister Lauren was 11th.

Sophomore Bradford Preston finished 22 in the frosh/soph boys 400-Meter Dash.

In the varsity 4x100- Meter Relay, Logan's A team finished in ninth place. In the frosh/soph boys distance medley, Logan's C team finished eighth.
