The Newark Optimist Club, along with Optimist International is sponsoring an essay contest for students in the Tri-City area. The Optimist motto is to "Bring out the best in our youth". Not only is this a chance for students to practice their writing skills, there are monetary awards at the Club level and a $2500 scholarship at the District level. Please see Mrs. Leon in the Administration Office for additional details. Essay deadline is February 16, 2013.

There is a MVROP Field Trip taking place for seriously interested juniors and sophomores on Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 12:30 - 3:30pm. Space is limited to 40 students! Which means that if you're serious about taking a ROP class next year but want to take a closer look, or waffling between 2 different classes, then here's your chance to see what current students are actually doing in class and meet with the teacher! The girls’ basketball program is honoring Zoe Inciong at our game against Newark today. There will be a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle at the game. All profits will be donated to Zoe's "So Things Don't Suck" fund to benefit the Zoe Inciong Memorial Scholarship and the Zoe Means Life Scholarship. There will be a table with paper cut-outs where people can donate money and write the name(s) of someone they know who has overcome or lost a battle with cancer, or a memory they had with Zoe. Right after the JV game, which begins at 6pm, before the varsity we will attempt to perform the flash mob that was done at Zoe's 16th birthday party, and present a plaque, flowers, and her jersey to her family.
